School Tours
During the Fall of each year, Riverview Orchards gives tours of the apple farm for young children in area schools and groups.
Children will be given a tour of two or more of the following stops:
  • a cold room where the apples are stored, to view fresh produce and products
  • a demonstration of apple sorting techniques
  • a peek at a donut robot
  • a stop at a ceiling-high observation beehive and beekeeping techniques
  • a stop at the Honey House for honey extraction demonstrations
  • a hayride into the orchard for a small bag of apples
  • a stop at the pumpkin house for a small pumpkin
Stops will be coordinated by us, based on the age of the children, and so that as many students as possible can have a fun time at the farm. These stops will be determined the day of the tour, as this is a real working farm. There will be a charge of $750 per child for the produce, a donut and a small cup of cider. Classes are invited to use the picnic tables thereafter, but you may be sharing these picnic tables with other classes. Please feel free to bring blankets in case the tables are in use. Allow a minimum of 90 minutes for this tour, but feel free to stay longer.
Here's how it works at Riverview Orchards:
  • A class of children may be combined by us with a class from another school in order to accommodate everyone.
  • Chaperones must accompany all groups. Although we very rarely have a problem, teachers and chaperones must be responsible for the behavior of their children.
  • Busses can park either along the edge of the orchard or next to the parking lot, but please do not park in the black-topped area.
  • Apple cider and donuts may be purchased and eaten on site or taken back to the classroom. If possible, please give advanced notice so we'll be sure to have enough.
  • Tours may not be given outdoors in case of bad weather. Alternate activities, however, can be provided indoors. In case bad weather looks imminent, please call immediately to determine a new schedule of events. Rescheduling can only be done after the original date has been rained out.
  • Late October tours will be given a slightly different schedule of events, but one which all kids seem to enjoy. Please inquire when scheduling.
  • For groups visiting in the morning, it is suggested that boots or old shoes be worn, as the orchard may be wet.
  • For chaperones who would like to pick apples, arrangements for payment must be made upon arrival. For additional shopping, it is suggested that the instructor organize the effort in advance to alleviate a last minute rush.
