Tours At Riverview Orchards

Here at Riverview Orchards, we love the opportunity to teach kids, and even adults, where and how their food is grown. After all, it is the one and only commodity no one can live without!

We greet classes outside in front of our store with a short introduction to our farm. If it’s a large group, we may break down into smaller sections so everyone can more easily see and hear.

​

We take a tour of our cold room and talk briefly about fruits and vegetables. Depending on the age and abilities of the group, we may review various types of produce including how and where it’s grown, outstanding characteristics, and other pertinent information.

​

We visit the observation bee hive so the kids can see what honeybees look like right up close and learn how they live. We emphasize the importance of honeybees for pollination in the food growing process.

​

Kids get the opportunity to watch the donut robot behind glass and to see the donuts being formed, step by step. They find out their ingredients and how each one is grown on a farm.

​

Behind our main building, the kids visit the animals, and if appropriate, can feed them. Depending on what’s happening, we have animals such as goats, sheep, pigs, or calves. This is a favorite stop for the kids where they often learn to recognize farm animals and to become quick friends.

​

The kids get to take a tractor-pulled hayride to the orchard to pick a snack-sized bag of apples. Once the kids are back on the wagons, the tractor driver takes them back to the farm store area.

​

Groups can use our picnic area for enjoying a cup of cider and a donut which are included in the package. We supply the napkins and cups. Classes are encouraged to use the provided trash bag so the area will be ready for the next class.

​

Our package includes all of the above for $12 per child. There is no charge for adults unless they would like to purchase something on their own. For reservations, call 518-371-2174 and ask for Jen Shea.
